Sabic Offers LLDPE to Indian Market Amid Potential Antidumping Duties

Saudi Arabia's Sabic has made its linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) available to the Indian market. While specific details regarding the grade, volume, and cost and freight (CFR) India prices remain undisclosed, this move marks a significant development in the polymer trade between the two nations.
This offer comes at a time when India is contemplating the imposition of antidumping duties (ADDs) on LLDPE imports from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Malaysia. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended ADDs ranging from $41 to $368 per tonne, depending on the country of origin and the producer. The decision is pending review by the Ministry of Finance, which is expected to make a determination within three months.
The potential antidumping measures aim to protect India's domestic LLDPE industry from unfair pricing practices. Companies such as Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd and HPCL-Mittal Energy Ltd, which are significant producers of LLDPE in India, have supported these measures. The DGTR's investigation initially included imports from Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar but was terminated for these countries as their import volumes were deemed insignificant.
