Indian Producers Implement Aggressive Polymer Price Hikes

Indian polymer producers have initiated significant price hikes for key materials such as PVC, PP, and PE as of November 1st. This move comes amidst rising input costs and converter resistance, particularly ahead of the Diwali festival. The increase is led by a larger-than-expected hike in S-PVC prices, alongside revisions in PP and PE prices.
The price adjustments are not driven by a surge in demand but rather by producer pressure, as highlighted by the recent sharp retreat in crude oil prices. The hikes are part of a broader trend affecting the Indian plastic manufacturing sector, which is grappling with a 50-60% rise in input costs. These increases have been exacerbated by global supply chain disruptions and rising feedstock costs linked to geopolitical tensions.
The All India Plastics Manufacturers' Association (AIPMA) has appealed to the government for intervention, citing the exponential price increases as a threat to the survival of many plastics processing plants. The association has also raised concerns about the impact of these hikes on sectors heavily reliant on plastic inputs, such as FMCG, automotive, and construction.
As Indian producers continue to adjust prices in response to global market dynamics, the pressure on domestic manufacturers is likely to persist, potentially leading to further price increases in finished plastic products.
