India’s duty exemption on key petrochemical imports expires after July 15

The duty waiver was introduced in April to ensure adequate supply during a period of heightened uncertainty caused by disruptions in the Middle East. It covered nearly 40 key petrochemical products, including PE, PP, PVC, PET, ABS, methanol, MEG, PTA, styrene, VCM, phenol, acetic acid, and polyols, helping ease supply concerns for domestic industries.
At the end of June, authorities had granted a two-week extension, making July 15 the revised deadline. As no additional extension has been announced, the temporary exemption has now lapsed, and regular customs duties have been reinstated on the covered imports.
The return to normal tariff rates is expected to increase import costs for these products, while market participants will closely monitor its impact on domestic pricing and trade activity in the coming weeks.
