India Polymer Markets: Easing Prices Amid Tight Supply and Disruptions

India Polymer Markets: Easing Prices Amid Tight Supply and Disruptions

Prices for polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) in India have been easing over the past few months, with a decline of around 15–20% from their recent peaks. This trend comes as buyers shift from panic purchasing to more cautious buying strategies.

Despite the easing prices, the supply of these polymers remains tight. The logistical challenges, exacerbated by high diesel fuel prices and ongoing global supply chain disruptions, continue to strain the market. The recent blockade of the Strait of Hormuz has further complicated the situation, affecting the availability of key raw materials and impacting various sectors beyond energy.

India's entry into the monsoon season is also contributing to softer demand, particularly in the construction and manufacturing sectors. This seasonal change, coupled with margin pressures, has tempered purchasing activities.

Overall, while prices are easing, the polymer market in India faces ongoing challenges from tight supply and unexpected global disruptions.
