GAIL & BCPL to Undertake Planned Shutdowns; Allocation Cuts Expected in Feb–March

According to preliminary operational guidance from the companies’ capacity planning teams:
GAIL is expected to give around 80% allocation for both February and March, reflecting curtailed throughput as maintenance and turnaround activities are carried out at key facilities.
BCPL, the petrochemicals unit in Assam with significant cracker capacity, is projected to see 90% allocation in February followed by 80% allocation in March, as part of its own maintenance and upgrade cycle.
The planned reductions come amid routine turnaround and shutdown schedules that are typical in the sector to ensure long-term reliability and safety of processing units. Analysts say such shutdowns, especially at units contributing to critical intermediates and feedstocks, can have short-term implications for downstream supply chains.
“Planned maintenance and shutdowns are part of the annual calendar for major hydrocarbon processors, but the timing and scale can impact supply allocations to key offtakers and trading desks,” said a sector analyst tracking GAIL and BCPL operations.
Market participants are also watching crude and product spreads for potential volatility, as reduced plant allocations can tighten near-term availability of LLDPE Film.
Both GAIL and BCPL are subsidiaries or affiliates connected through gas supply and petrochemical feedstock linkages, and their maintenance schedules are often coordinated to balance throughput across the network.
