MRPL Revises Polypropylene Prices Amid Plant Shutdown

MRPL Revises Polypropylene Prices Amid Plant Shutdown

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) has announced a revision in its polypropylene (PP) prices in the domestic Indian market. The specifics of the price changes, including the direction and magnitude, were not disclosed in the initial report by Polymerupdate.

This price adjustment comes at a time when MRPL has temporarily shut down its 440,000 t/yr PP plant for scheduled maintenance. The shutdown began on April 13 and is expected to last approximately 45 days, with operations resuming by the end of May. This maintenance period coincides with the shutdown of MRPL's 450,000 t/yr fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) unit, which is also expected to last for the same duration.

The shutdown is likely to impact the supply of PP in the Indian market, which is already described as balanced to tight. In response to these supply constraints, Reliance Industries (RIL), another major player in the Indian polymer market, is anticipated to reduce its exports to Asia to bolster domestic supplies.

According to Plastemart, MRPL had previously increased prices for its PP - IM/Lamination grade by INR 3,000/MT and for all other grades by INR 2,000/MT as of August 21, 2026.
