U.S. Expands Tariffs to Include PET Resin Imports

President Donald Trump said the move aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing and address national security concerns.
Domestic producers welcomed the step, citing relief from low-cost imports.
Recyclers, however, voiced concern over unclear treatment of recycled PET, since it lacks a separate customs code.
U.S. PET imports rose 6% YoY in the first seven months of 2025, totaling nearly 975,000 MT.
Market analysts expect the tariffs to lift domestic PET and rPET prices, while raising costs for downstream industries.
