South east Asian polymer prices decline across key regions in latest May 27 Platts assessment
Regional polymer markets showed mostly softer pricing on May 27, with Platts assessments indicating declines across Southeast Asia and Far East Asia, while the Indian sub-continent remained relatively stable in most polyethylene grades.
In Southeast Asia, PVC moved down by $10/ton to $810/ton. LDPE dropped sharply by $45/ton to $1550/ton, while LLDPE fell by $55/ton to $1300/ton. HDPE injection declined by $25/ton to $1340/ton, HDPE blow molding slipped by $25/ton to $1345/ton, and HDPE film also decreased by $25/ton to $1350/ton.
The polypropylene market in Southeast Asia also recorded losses, with PP raffia down by $20/ton to $1270/ton. PP film declined by $20/ton to $1320/ton, while PPCP also fell by $20/ton to settle at $1320/ton.
In South Asia, covering the Indian sub-continent, polyethylene prices remained unchanged. LDPE held steady at $1595/ton, LLDPE remained flat at $1395/ton, HDPE injection stayed at $1380/ton, while HDPE blow molding and HDPE film were both unchanged at $1395/ton.
Polypropylene grades in South Asia showed mild corrections. PP raffia eased by $10/ton to $1320/ton, PP film slipped by $15/ton to $1335/ton, and PPCP edged lower by $5/ton to $1390/ton.
Far East Asia posted the steepest corrections. LDPE saw a major fall of $95/ton to $1310/ton. LLDPE declined by $30/ton to $1105/ton. HDPE injection and HDPE blow molding both dropped by $25/ton to $1150/ton, while HDPE film declined by $25/ton to $1195/ton.
In the polypropylene segment, PP raffia and PP film each moved lower by $10/ton to $1210/ton and $1240/ton respectively. PPCP recorded a sharper fall of $50/ton to close at $1230/ton.
The latest Platts data reflects continued weakness in regional polymer sentiment, with Far East Asia witnessing the strongest downward pressure.
