Oil Prices Surge 6% Even as Tankers Push Through Hormuz

At the time of reporting, Brent crude was trading at $78.58 per barrel, while WTI crude climbed to $74.76 per barrel.
Despite the heightened tensions, a limited number of oil tankers continued transiting the Strait. Shipping data showed that several vessels either entered or exited the waterway following Tuesday's attacks, including a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) carrying approximately 2 million barrels of crude oil.
However, not all operators chose to proceed. Several tankers reportedly changed course or anchored near the Strait while awaiting clearer security conditions before continuing their voyages.
The situation has created uncertainty for shipowners, who now face difficult route decisions. Both the northern and southern shipping corridors are considered to carry elevated risks following the latest attacks on commercial vessels.
Among the ships targeted on Tuesday were a Qatari LNG carrier and a Saudi-owned oil tanker, increasing concerns over the security of global energy transportation.
Following these incidents, maritime security agencies raised the threat level for the Strait of Hormuz to "Severe," warning that the risk of further hostile actions remains high. Shipping operators have been advised to maintain maximum vigilance while navigating the region.
The renewed security concerns have strengthened fears of possible supply disruptions, providing strong support to crude oil prices despite continued tanker movements through the vital shipping lane.
