Oil Prices Jump After Iran Attacks Commercial Vessels

At the time of reporting, Brent crude was trading at $76.58 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) stood at $72.74 per barrel.
According to reports, the vessels targeted by Iran included a Qatari LNG carrier, a Saudi oil tanker, and a Liberian-flagged oil tanker operating near the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities claimed the LNG vessel was attacked after it allegedly ignored repeated warnings.
The United States responded by carrying out strikes on several Iranian military assets, including air defense systems, coastal radar installations, anti-ship missile sites, command-and-control facilities, and numerous fast attack boats positioned around the Strait of Hormuz. The operation was aimed at reducing Iran's capability to threaten international shipping.
Iran later retaliated by launching strikes against US military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait, highlighting the fragile security situation despite last month's ceasefire agreement.
The renewed conflict has increased concerns over the safety of one of the world's most important oil shipping routes. Market analysts believe the latest developments have reminded traders that geopolitical risks in the region remain high, challenging earlier expectations of a potential global oil oversupply.
Diplomatic tensions also remain elevated. The United States has continued to push for a new agreement with Iran while warning of further action if negotiations fail. Iran, however, has stated that meaningful peace talks cannot move forward as long as military threats continue.
