Maersk Restores MECL Service Through the Red Sea

Maersk Restores MECL Service Through the Red Sea
Maersk has announced that its MECL service, connecting India, the Middle East, and the US East Coast, will gradually resume operations through the Red Sea and Suez Canal, replacing the longer route around the Cape of Good Hope. The decision follows the successful transit of the Majestic Maersk through the Red Sea.

The revised route is expected to significantly shorten transit times. Westbound shipments will be completed around seven days faster, while eastbound voyages are expected to save approximately 14 days. The first westbound sailing under the updated schedule will be Maersk Denver (627W), followed by the eastbound Maersk Chicago (624E).

As part of the network adjustment, Jeddah will be added to the eastbound rotation starting in August, expanding the service coverage in the region. Maersk stated that it will continue monitoring the security situation in the Middle East and may reroute individual vessels or the entire service via the Cape of Good Hope again if operational conditions require.
