Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd Move AE19 Back Through the Suez Route

The decision follows the carriers’ latest review of security conditions in the Red Sea and marks a further step toward gradually restoring services through the trans-Suez trade route. The AE19 service links Asia with Saudi Arabia, the Mediterranean and Europe, with Jeddah included in its revised rotation before vessels transit the Suez Canal.
By returning to the Suez and Red Sea corridor, the carriers expect to reduce transit times between Asia and Europe compared with the longer journey around the Cape of Good Hope. Maersk described the Suez route as the fastest and most efficient connection for this trade lane.
However, the move currently applies only to the AE19 service, and no wider return of other Gemini Cooperation services to the Red Sea and Suez Canal route has been announced.
