Indian Producer Raises HDPE Pipe and Select LDPE Prices, Keeps Film Grades Unchanged

Under the new pricing structure, HDPE pipe grades have increased by INR3,000/ton ($36/ton). The same increase applies to LDPE extrusion coating (EC) and injection molding (IM) grades. Meanwhile, the producer has maintained existing prices for general packaging and film grades, as well as all LLDPE products.
The decision follows similar selective adjustments by other domestic producers last week, when HDPE pipe prices rose by INR2,000/ton ($24/ton), while standard PE and PP grades remained unchanged. These developments indicate that suppliers are increasingly adjusting prices according to demand and supply conditions in individual applications rather than applying increases across the board.
HDPE Pipe Prices Gain Support From Infrastructure Demand
HDPE pipe grades continue to perform relatively well in India’s domestic PE market, with the latest increase extending their upward pricing trend.
Market participants linked the continued hikes to improving demand from infrastructure projects as construction and utility activities pick up following the monsoon season. Limited availability of certain specialized pipe grades has also strengthened suppliers’ pricing power.
A Mumbai-based trader said infrastructure work under government-backed municipal water supply and gas distribution projects had accelerated in several states as weather conditions improved after the monsoon. The trader added that tight regional availability of certified crack-resistant pipe compounds had helped domestic suppliers pass on higher raw material costs.
Weak Retail Demand Limits Increases for Film Grades
The latest revision extends selective price increases beyond HDPE pipes to LDPE extrusion coating and injection molding grades. However, the decision to maintain prices for standard film and packaging products reflects weaker demand across these applications.
Flexible packaging converters continue to purchase mainly for immediate requirements. Sluggish retail sales and pressure on processing margins have discouraged larger-volume buying, leaving suppliers with limited scope to implement broader increases despite the approaching festive season.
At the same time, elevated feedstock costs, higher import replacement prices and the Indian rupee’s weakness against the US dollar continue to support domestic producers’ efforts to protect margins.
The latest revision reflects this uneven market environment: suppliers are raising prices in segments supported by stronger demand or tighter availability while keeping mainstream packaging grades unchanged to avoid further discouraging buyers.
