India Amends Import Policy for Suspension Grade PVC Resin

The Government of India has announced an amendment to the import policy for Suspension grade PVC resin (S-PVC), significantly impacting the market structure. The amendment, effective immediately, restricts the import of S-PVC with a CIF value of less than or equal to USD 0.766 per kilogram for a period of six months.
This policy change aims to curb the influx of low-priced PVC resin imports, which have been affecting domestic producers. However, the restriction does not apply to 100% Export Oriented Units (EOUs), units in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and imports under the Advance Authorisation Scheme, provided the imported materials are not sold in the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA).
The amendment is part of the government's broader strategy to support local manufacturers by regulating the import of cheaper foreign materials. This move is expected to stabilize the domestic market and provide relief to Indian producers facing competition from low-cost imports.
