ICIS Expands PVC Pricing Coverage with New Carbide-Based CFR India Assessment

ICIS has expanded its pricing coverage for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) by introducing a carbide-based CFR India assessment. This move comes in response to the substantial volume of carbide-based PVC imports into India, which accounted for 60-70% of the 3+ million tonnes imported in 2025. The majority of these imports originate from China.
The introduction of this new assessment is timely, given the recent supply disruptions from the Middle East and shipping concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, which have affected the availability of PVC. Despite these challenges, the market currently has ample availability of carbide-based PVC.
Historically, carbide-based PVC has traded at a discount of $30-40 per ton compared to ethylene-based PVC on a CFR India basis. This pricing dynamic highlights the importance of the new ICIS assessment in providing more accurate and relevant market data for industry stakeholders.
The expansion of ICIS's pricing coverage underscores the need for reliable data and insights in navigating the complexities of the global PVC market, particularly for Indian buyers who rely heavily on imports.
