Hormuz Shipping Slows Sharply as Fresh Tensions Push Oil Prices Higher

During Monday's trading, ICE Brent crude for September delivery rose to around $78.72/bbl, while NYMEX WTI for August increased to approximately $73.94/bbl, reflecting renewed concerns over potential supply disruptions.
Tanker Movements Fall to Five-Week Low
Despite official statements confirming that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, shipping activity has slowed considerably. Recent tracking data showed that only six oil tankers passed through the strait on Sunday, marking the lowest daily traffic level in the past five weeks.
Several vessels carrying crude oil and refined petroleum products continued their voyages, while a number of empty tankers entered the Gulf to load future cargoes. However, many ships reportedly switched off their Automatic Identification System (AIS) while transiting the area, highlighting growing security concerns. No LNG carriers were reported to have entered the strait during the same period.
Shipping Risks Remain the Main Concern
The latest military escalation has renewed uncertainty over the stability of energy exports from the Middle East. While the Strait of Hormuz remains navigable, shipping companies appear to be exercising greater caution, resulting in a noticeable decline in vessel traffic through one of the world's most important oil and gas transit routes.
Recent improvements in regional crude production had supported higher global oil supply, but fresh geopolitical tensions have raised new concerns over the pace of recovery. Market participants are now closely monitoring developments in the region, as any prolonged disruption to shipping could have a significant impact on global energy markets.
