EU Formally Ends Anti-Dumping Investigation on Vietnamese PET Imports

The investigation began in May 2025 following allegations from the European PET industry that Vietnamese PET was being sold at unfairly low prices, negatively affecting domestic producers. The review examined import activity during 2024 while also assessing the condition of the European market over the preceding years.
As part of the investigation, the EU introduced customs registration for Vietnamese PET imports in July 2025. This measure was designed to allow any future anti-dumping duties, if approved, to be collected retroactively. However, no provisional duties were announced during the investigation, leading many market participants to believe the likelihood of trade restrictions was gradually diminishing.
The direction of the case changed in May 2026 when the original complainant withdrew its petition. After reviewing the situation, the European Commission determined there were no grounds to continue the investigation and informed interested parties of its intention to close the proceeding. No objections were received during the consultation period.
The Commission formally adopted the decision on June 23, 2026, with publication in the Official Journal on June 25, 2026. The decision became effective the following day, officially ending the investigation.
With the case now closed, Vietnamese PET exports to the European Union will continue without anti-dumping duties, providing greater certainty for exporters, importers, and downstream buyers.
