Easing Prices and Tight Supply in India's Polymer Market Amid Disruptions

India's polymer market is currently experiencing a phase of easing prices following a significant spike earlier this year due to geopolitical tensions. Prices for polyethylene (PE) have decreased from $1,600/MT to $1,300/MT, while polypropylene (PP) raffia prices have adjusted to the mid-$1,200s/MT CFR. The easing trend is also observed in LDPE, LLDPE, and HDPE film grades, which have fallen by USD 40-65/MT.
Despite the price reductions, the market continues to grapple with tight supply conditions. Structural supply constraints are primarily due to disruptions in imports from the Middle East, a critical source for India's polymer needs. Additionally, the monsoon season is contributing to reduced demand in construction and manufacturing sectors, further complicating the market dynamics.
Logistical challenges, including port congestion, are exacerbating the supply issues. The situation has been further strained by LPG supply constraints, which at their peak, reduced polymer demand by approximately 20%. As India remains heavily reliant on Middle East imports, any disruptions in this region have significant ripple effects on the local market.
