Caution Outweighs Confidence in PP & PE Markets Across GCC, Europe, and India

Polymer markets in the GCC, European, and Indian regions are experiencing a cautious outlook, with subdued downstream demand and buyers focusing on immediate needs. In India, the market for low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is particularly tight due to reliance on imports, while polypropylene (PP) availability is constrained by feedstock-related production issues.
The market is further impacted by longer lead times, higher freight costs, and delayed summer cargoes, prompting interest in Chinese PP and North American PE alternatives. Despite these challenges, prices have firmed to multi-month highs in September, driven by rising crude and feedstock costs, logistics disruptions, and supply concerns.
The volatility in crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions are contributing to the increase in polymer prices, significantly affecting packaging costs in India. Meanwhile, the Chinese polyethylene market shows mixed trends, with domestic prices seeing some downward revisions, although most import offers remain stable or slightly higher.
In response to these dynamics, a major Saudi Arabian PE producer has sharply increased its October offers to Vietnam, while Egyptian producer SIDPEC has raised its September PE prices amid tight import supply. Indian producers have also adjusted prices, with PP prices rising while PE remains steady.
