Adani Targets FY2028 Startup for Mundra PVC Plant as Construction Progresses

Adani Group is advancing its plans to establish a PVC manufacturing plant in Mundra, Gujarat, with a targeted operational start in FY2028. The plant is set to initially produce 1 million tonnes per annum (TPA) of PVC, with potential expansion to 2 million TPA. This move is expected to significantly bolster domestic PVC supply and reduce India's reliance on imports, which currently stands at 2.5 million tonnes annually.
The Mundra facility will utilize acetylene-based PVC production, a method considered less polluting compared to conventional petrochemical processes. Adani has secured all necessary environmental clearances for the project, aligning with its strategy to leverage its renewable energy capacity to minimize carbon intensity.
India's PVC demand, driven by sectors such as agriculture, housing, and infrastructure, is approximately 4 million TPA and is growing at a rate of 6-8% annually. Currently, domestic production meets only a fraction of this demand, with Reliance Industries being the dominant producer. Adani's entry into the market is poised to challenge this status quo and support India's urbanization and modernization efforts.
