28 Oil and Gas Ships Stranded Near Hormuz, India Faces Supply Pressure

The disruption is linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict, which continues to impact key global energy routes.
Mix of Indian and Foreign Ships Affected
Out of the total stranded vessels:
• 10 are foreign-flagged ships supplying India
• 18 are India-flagged vessels
The foreign ships include:
• 4 crude oil tankers
• 3 LPG carriers
• 3 LNG vessels
India-flagged ships include:
• 4 crude oil tankers
• 3 LPG carriers
• 1 LNG vessel
Another vessel is currently in the region loading LPG. Authorities confirmed that all Indian crew members onboard these ships are safe.
Energy Supply Disruptions Impact India
The situation has disrupted a significant portion of energy supplies typically routed through the Strait of Hormuz.
As one of the world’s largest crude importers, India relies heavily on this route, especially for LPG, which is widely used as a primary cooking fuel.
Efforts to Ensure Safe Passage
The government is prioritizing the safe movement of India-flagged vessels through the region.
In recent days, eight Indian ships have successfully crossed the Strait, including LPG carriers expected to reach India shortly.
There are also indications that some vessels have been allowed to pass through routes close to the Iranian coastline.
Market Outlook
With a large number of vessels still stranded and supply routes under pressure, energy availability remains uncertain.
Any prolonged disruption could further tighten supply and impact fuel availability in the near term.
