Egypt’s SIDPEC and ETHYDCO Cut September PE Prices Amid Weak Demand

The producer lowered HDPE film by EGP2,500/ton ($49/ton), while HDPE blow molding and injection grades were reduced by EGP4,000/ton ($79/ton) and EGP2,000/ton ($39/ton), respectively, compared with August levels. The reductions signal renewed downward pressure in the domestic market, contrasting with largely stable September offers from Middle Eastern suppliers.
A company source attributed the cuts to persistently weak local demand and competitively priced Saudi spot cargoes, which have made it difficult to sustain previous price levels. SIDPEC prices are quoted ex-Alexandria, with 60-day deferred payment terms and excluding VAT.

Meanwhile, ETHYDCO also announced September PE prices ranging from rollovers to decreases of up to EGP3,000/ton ($59/ton) from August. With domestic producers cutting prices while Middle Eastern suppliers largely kept September import offers at July levels, the gap between local and import prices has narrowed, putting further pressure on domestic sellers' margins.
Trading activity remained subdued following the announcements, with buyers continuing to purchase mainly on a need basis rather than for inventory building. ETHYDCO prices are quoted ex-Alexandria, cash terms, excluding VAT.
