Swedish Scanfill Launches Food-Grade PP Film with 30% Recycled Content

Swedish packaging manufacturer Scanfill has introduced a new polypropylene (PP) film containing 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content for food packaging applications. The product, called Scanfoil rPP POP (Prevented Ocean Plastic™), is designed to offer performance similar to virgin PP while supporting sustainability goals in the packaging industry.

The new film is available in multiple transparency options and has been developed to align with the European Union’s upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which aims to increase the use of recycled materials in packaging.

The recycled feedstock is sourced from used plastic cups collected in coastal regions of Southeast Asia that are considered at high risk for plastic leakage into waterways and oceans. The material undergoes advanced recycling and strict quality-control procedures before being converted into food-contact packaging film.

According to the company, the film is fully recyclable and offers complete traceability of its recycled content, providing packaging producers with a food-grade recycled PP solution that supports circular economy initiatives and future regulatory requirements.
