Mid-Eastern PE Suppliers Return to Southeast Asia with Aggressive Pricing

Mid-Eastern PE Suppliers Return to Southeast Asia with Aggressive Pricing
Middle Eastern polyethylene suppliers are gradually re-entering Southeast Asia’s import market after months of disruption caused by the Iran-US conflict. However, they are returning to a much more competitive environment, as suppliers from the US, China, South Korea, and other Asian countries expanded their presence during the period of reduced Middle Eastern availability.

With regional demand still weak and buyers purchasing only limited volumes, returning suppliers have been forced to adopt aggressive pricing strategies to regain lost market share. The pressure has been most visible in the LLDPE film and HDPE film segments, where competition among suppliers has intensified significantly.

A Saudi Arabian producer recently drew market attention by offering LLDPE film at around $950/ton CIF Southeast Asia and HDPE film at $1030/ton CIF. However, transactions in Vietnam were reportedly concluded at even lower levels, with LLDPE film changing hands at $860-870/ton CIF and HDPE film at around $960/ton CIF.

These deals were among the lowest levels seen for Middle Eastern PE grades in several months and have effectively established a new benchmark for the market. Traders believe the producer adopted aggressive pricing to quickly rebuild its customer base and strengthen its position after a prolonged absence from the region.

Unlike LLDPE and HDPE, LDPE has remained relatively more stable. Limited regional availability has helped support prices, although buyers remain cautious and continue to purchase only according to immediate requirements.

Market participants expect the return of additional Middle Eastern cargoes to further increase competition across Southeast Asia. Suppliers from all major origins are likely to face mounting pressure as buyers maintain a bearish outlook and continue seeking lower prices. As export flows normalize, competition for market share is expected to keep downward pressure on PE prices throughout the region.
