Price Discovery Remains Challenging in Turkey’s Import PP and PE Markets

Price Discovery Remains Challenging in Turkey’s Import PP and PE Markets
Turkey’s import polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) markets remain under heavy pressure as prices continue to slide, yet buyers and sellers are struggling to identify a clear market floor. Ongoing declines throughout June have created significant uncertainty, with sellers repeatedly lowering offers while buyers remain cautious, expecting further corrections before committing to purchases.

In the PP market, import prices continued to weaken amid sluggish demand and growing competition from Europe. Saudi Arabian homo-PP raffia offers moved close to the $1100/ton CIF Turkey level, while some market discussions indicated even lower values. European suppliers also entered the market with highly competitive raffia offers following lower propylene costs, increasing pressure on traditional Middle Eastern and Russian suppliers.

PP copolymer prices also softened, with South Korean and UAE offers moving lower as suppliers competed for limited demand. Market participants noted that weak trading activity has made it difficult to establish firm reference prices.

The PE market faced similar challenges. European LDPE offers declined following lower ethylene costs, prompting additional pressure on regional suppliers. Domestic producer Petkim responded by reducing its LDPE prices further in an effort to remain competitive.

Meanwhile, US-origin material continued to weigh heavily on the market. LLDPE film and HDPE film offers were widely discussed around the $1000/ton CIF Turkey mark, with some transactions and indications reported below that level. HDPE blow molding and injection grades were also heard at significantly lower prices as suppliers aggressively pursued market share.

US LDPE prices also moved down from previous levels, reflecting weakening global demand and softer feedstock costs. Buyers have increasingly shifted their focus toward the low price levels seen at the end of 2025 rather than the higher values recorded during the recent geopolitical disruptions.

Market participants expect additional price reductions from Middle Eastern suppliers in the coming days as they respond to competitive US and European offers, improving supply conditions, and persistently weak demand across global polyolefin markets.
