Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd Resume Suez Canal Route on Asia-Europe AE15 Service

Maersk has confirmed that its AE15 Asia-Europe service, operated under the Gemini Cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd, will resume transits through the Suez Canal, ending the longer diversion around the Cape of Good Hope. The move marks a gradual return to the traditional Asia-Europe shipping route following an improvement in security conditions in the Red Sea.

The first vessel scheduled to use the restored route will be the Majestic Maersk. The AE15 service connects key Asian ports with destinations in the Mediterranean and Europe, covering ports including Qingdao, Kwangyang, Ningbo, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Said, Damietta, Colombo, and Singapore.

According to the companies, the decision was made after reviewing the current security environment in the region. The return to the Suez Canal is expected to shorten transit times and improve service efficiency for customers moving cargo between Asia and Europe.

However, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd emphasized that future routing decisions will continue to depend on conditions in the Red Sea. If security risks increase again, the carriers may redirect individual sailings or the entire service back through the Cape of Good Hope to ensure the safety of crews, vessels, and cargo.
