Haldia Petrochemicals Says Plant Operations Unaffected After Pipeline Fire Incident
Haldia Petrochemicals has confirmed that its production operations remain unaffected following a fire incident that occurred early Tuesday morning on a naphtha pipeline located outside the main plant area.
According to the company's official statement, the fire was reported at around 4:30 a.m. and is believed to have originated from a suspected naphtha leak. While the primary source of the fire was largely contained, leaked naphtha spread through a nearby canal. The resulting pool of burning material caused damage to a third-party LPG pipeline due to heat exposure, leading to a secondary fire.
The company stated that the LPG line fire has been brought under control and extensive firefighting efforts involving water, foam, local authorities, and neighboring industries were deployed to manage the situation.
Several individuals reportedly sustained injuries during the incident, including some unauthorized occupants residing in huts near the affected area. Haldia Petrochemicals said it is providing medical assistance to the injured and is fully cooperating with local authorities. The company also noted that it had previously warned residents about the risks associated with staying near the pipeline corridor.
Importantly, Haldia Petrochemicals emphasized that the production complex has not been impacted and continues to operate normally. The company reported only limited damage to the pipeline infrastructure outside the plant boundary and said restoration work will be undertaken. It also confirmed that an alternative pipeline connected to the jetty remains available, ensuring uninterrupted feedstock supply.
The company reiterated that safety remains its top priority and stated that further updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available.
