Import PP and PE Prices in Turkey Fall Further as Demand Remains Weak
Turkey's import polyolefin market continued to soften in early June, with both PP and PE prices moving lower as buyers remained cautious after the Eid holiday. Weak purchasing activity, expectations of further corrections, and improving supply availability have kept pressure on sellers across the market.
Saudi-origin PP raffia prices declined further, with offers now reaching the $1400/ton CIF Turkey level at the lower end. PP fiber grades also moved down as suppliers adjusted prices to stimulate demand. Despite the recent declines, current levels remain above those seen before the Middle East conflict-driven rally earlier this year.
The PE market followed a similar trend. US-origin LLDPE C4 film offers dropped below a key price threshold, with some cargoes being offered as low as $1350/ton CIF Turkey. The grade has been on a downward trend for several weeks as traders compete for limited buying interest.
Market participants attribute the ongoing correction to a combination of weak downstream demand, comfortable inventories, and improving supply conditions as Middle Eastern production units gradually return to normal operations. At the same time, buyers continue to delay purchases in anticipation of lower prices ahead.
Many converters believe the market has not yet reached its bottom. Some PP buyers expect raffia prices to slip below $1400/ton CIF Turkey later this month, while PE buyers remain cautious about committing to imported cargoes due to the risk of further price declines.
With demand still sluggish and global polyolefin markets facing similar pressure, sentiment in Turkey remains bearish, and additional price reductions cannot be ruled out in the coming weeks.
