Japan Set to Receive First Gulf Crude Cargo Through Hormuz Since Iran Conflict

Japan is expected to receive what could become its first crude oil cargo from the Persian Gulf to successfully pass through the Strait of Hormuz since disruptions began during the Iran conflict.
According to reports, the tanker Idemitsu Maru carrying nearly 2 million barrels of Saudi crude is likely to arrive at Idemitsu Kosan’s Aichi refinery as early as Monday after crossing the Strait in late April.
The Middle East conflict had sharply reduced tanker movement through the key shipping route, creating major supply concerns for Asian countries heavily dependent on Gulf oil and gas imports.
In response to the disruption, Japan and several other Asian nations increased the use of strategic reserves while also exploring alternative energy supply sources.
Although vessel traffic through Hormuz remains significantly lower than normal levels, another Japan-linked tanker, Eneos Endeavor, was also reported to have completed a successful crossing earlier this month.
