Egypt’s SIDPEC cuts May PE prices to stay competitive in local market

SIDPEC, one of Egypt’s key polyethylene (PE) producers, has announced its May pricing with significant reductions compared to late April levels. The move follows sharp increases seen last month and reflects a correction in the market as competitively priced Saudi cargoes continue to exert pressure on domestic prices.

The producer reduced its PE offers by EGP 21,000–22,000 per ton (around $391–410/ton). Market sources indicate that SIDPEC adjusted its pricing after losing competitiveness, as its earlier offers were significantly higher than prevailing local market levels.

According to participants, the availability of lower-priced Saudi material forced the producer to revise prices in order to maintain market share.
